My research focuses on transnational, regional, and especially global environmental issues that can only be addressed by international cooperation. A key feature of this work involves establishing the relationship between natural and human systems, and then seeing how this relationship can be shifted, for the benefit of humanity, by the careful design of institutions--treaties, especially, but also customary international law and even decisions and resolutions adopted by international bodies.
